February Bead Journal Page

I finished my February page - it began with a mardi gras theme. I'd purchased some amazing fabric designed by Mark Lipinksi called Katmandu and the fabric just screamed out for beading. I wanted to experiment with building some 3D flowers with beads and sequins and this fabric seemed to be a good foundation for that as well.

And so the month of February is titled "life isn't always a carnivale (or patience is a virtue)"

Diane,
I think this one is my favorite too. I just love the dimension, expecially the leaves. Did you do trapunto under them or just add something under the beads? Lots of neat ideas with the sequins too. WOW!

The colors just sing! And being the only child of a persnickity mom, I can sympathize with you and your mom...

This is just grand, Diane! Bless your heart -- I do understand the patience and love one needs with an elderly parent who has no patience . . .

thank you all for your kind words - and to abeadlady - i embroidered around some of the leaves with regular DMC floss before beading them which gave them a sort of 'puffy' look - there are 2 pieces of wool felt backing the fabric and I think that gave it that trupunto-esque look

I keep hearing about this fabric... going to have to get some for myself! You've done a beautiful job. Wish I could see it in person. Bet it's a stunner :- )

I've been to the Shibori Dragon once. What a great shop! You remind me that I have some African scraps from there to play with...

Good luck with your mom. And rapid healing wishes to her!

Beautiful work... which reminds me that I need to get my tush into gear and get my lipinski panel finished for the March guild meeting. Hehe, I am teaching beading but haven't gotten around to making the demo yet.

Sorry about your Mom and you having to step into her world. "Pay back time" is how I look at it with my Mom. Glad to hear in your recent post that she's out of the nursing home. Hope she had enough rehab to be able to handle her own life again now.
